Professional Stuff

Where I’ve been.

I obtained my bachelors and masters in clinical social work from Mizzou in May 2021. I’ve worked in a variety of settings, including domestic violence shelters, outpatient clinics, and residential settings. I’ve served as a legal advocate, therapist, group educator, lead therapist of an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and now a group practice owner. The benefit of working in so many different settings is that it’s helped expand my perspective of what it means to be a therapist. On top of a variety of settings, I’ve worked with a many different people navigating many different things. From self-harm and suicidal ideation to premarital counseling, and everything in between! Variety truly is the spice of life.

Where I’m going.

I have had the great opportunity to focus on working with folks navigating the waters of trauma/PTSD and OCD. Oddly enough, I think they function very similarly: PTSD and OCD both attempt to protect us from experiencing pain, and both try to reach that goal in different ways. Whether it be avoiding memories or checking something more times that we need to, both attempts are ways of us trying to feel safe and in control. Providing support for both of those experiences makes my heartbeat and really fills my cup.

What interventions I use.

As a therapist, I see my role as similar to that of a paleontologist. You bring me the bones the way you found them, and I help make sense of it. Sometimes that means figuring out how the bones got their in the first place, other times it’s figuring out why there are so many bones missing. And if you try to convince me the bone is something it very clearly is not, I’ll provide you the evidence so it can be classified accordingly. I achieve this in a variety of different ways, whether it be addressing your symptoms of OCD by engaging in controlled exposures or challenging your beliefs about yourself that have been heavily impacted by traumatic experiences.

Fun Stuff

  • My favorite food.

I love to cook, so anything homemade is great, especially baked goods. I get weak in the knees around chocolate chip cookies and I have been known to bring in baked treats.

  • Books on my personal and professional bookshelf.

I grew up in a bookstore and I love to read. Suspense novels are a favorite. I also have a mix of books on personal growth, relationships, and anything that helps me better understand people.

  • My favorite music.

A little bit of everything depending on the mood, sometimes calm, sometimes something with more energy. I appreciate just about everything. If I have a really stressed out day, I will crank up the music and drown out the world!

  • My most controversial food opinion.

Store bought desserts are almost never worth it! And not all chocolate chip cookies are created equal- I have very strong opinions on this.

  • My favorite hobbies.

Spending time at the lake, being outside in the sun, baking, and volunteering with horses and kids.

  • Dog or cat person?

BOTH! I have two dogs and two cats, so I am fully committed to the chaos.

  • My favorite animal.

Horses (with a soft spot for my own pets, of course!) If I were an animal, I would probably be a horse, or maybe a dog, or maybe a cat. It would be nice to lounge around all day in a sunny spot.

  • My favorite Britney Spears song.

It’s a toss up between Oops I Did it Again or Work Bitch.
