Meet Stephanie Morris, LCSW, LSCSW
Calling all book lovers, those with strong opinions about chocolate chip cookies, and the ones sick of holding it all together.
Professional Stuff
Where I’ve been.
I earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Kansas and my Master’s in Social Gerontology from Central Missouri State University. I have spent the past 30 + years working in healthcare and case management settings, mostly with older adults and families navigating complex medical and life situations. My background is in medical social work and case management, where I supported individuals and families through health crises, caregiving challenges, and major life transitions. A lot of my job involved helping people navigate systems that are not always easy to manage. More importantly, I helped people make sense of what they were going through and feel less alone in it, which naturally led me into therapy.
Where I’m going.
I love working with adults who are navigating grief, caregiving, anxiety, and life transitions, especially those who are used to being the “strong one” for everyone else. My approach is supportive, practical, and grounded in real life. I use evidenced based approaches, but I also believe therapy should feel like a real conversation, not a textbook.
I’m your ideal therapist if. . .
You are used to holding it all together for everyone else and you are getting tired. I am your ideal therapist if you want a therapist who is warm and understanding, but also honest and real, not just someone who nods the whole time. I am your ideal therapist if you are open to doing meaningful work, but you don’t need it to feel overly clinical or intimidating.
Fun Stuff
-
My favorite food.
I love to cook, so anything homemade is great, especially baked goods. I get weak in the knees around chocolate chip cookies and I have been known to bring in baked treats.
-
Books on my personal and professional bookshelf.
I grew up in a bookstore and I love to read. Suspense novels are a favorite. I also have a mix of books on personal growth, relationships, and anything that helps me better understand people.
-
My favorite music.
A little bit of everything depending on the mood, sometimes calm, sometimes something with more energy. I appreciate just about everything. If I have a really stressed out day, I will crank up the music and drown out the world!
-
My most controversial food opinion.
Store bought desserts are almost never worth it! And not all chocolate chip cookies are created equal- I have very strong opinions on this.
-
My favorite hobbies.
Spending time at the lake, being outside in the sun, baking, and volunteering with horses and kids.
-
Dog or cat person?
BOTH! I have two dogs and two cats, so I am fully committed to the chaos.
-
My favorite animal.
Horses (with a soft spot for my own pets, of course!) If I were an animal, I would probably be a horse, or maybe a dog, or maybe a cat. It would be nice to lounge around all day in a sunny spot.
-
My favorite Britney Spears song.
It’s a toss up between Oops I Did it Again or Work Bitch.
